PhD Entrance Test 2024 - Instructions

General Instructions for submitting Online Application

  1. You need to register first, before filling of the online entrance application form. You must have your personal email id before Registration.
  2. The following instructions need to be followed for Registration in the beginning.
    1. Click on the button NEW REGISTRTION that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
    2. Fill in the User Name and password in the appropriate columns correctly.
    3. Remember, while choosing your User Name it must be in between 8 to 16 characters.
    4. While choosing your password it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
    5. After filling the mandatory information click the "SUBMIT" button.
    6. Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.
  3. Remember your Username and Password for subsequent login.
  4. If you have already registered i.e you are an existing user click the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Before proceeding for filling the online application form, you must have the following:
    • Scanned passport size Photograph (less than 100 KB)
    • Scanned Signature (less than 100 KB)
    • All the supporting documents (like Proof of Date of Birth, relevant mark-sheets, degree certificates, caste certificate, income certificate, disability certificate, UGC NET-JRF certificate/UGC-NET Score card etc) (less than 500KB)
  6. Fee can be paid by following methods:
    • Credit Card (Master/Visa)
    • Debit Card (Master/Visa/Rupay)
    • Net Banking
  7. Note: It is suggested to scan documents from your originals. Once you have uploaded the document, click the next button you will get the further information related to online application which you need to fill up.
  8. After the final submission of online application form, download the filled in application form, take the printout and enclose the hardcopies/photocopies of all the documents and certificates as mentioned in the student handbook and prospectus to be submitted during Interview/counseling for final admission.

Instructions pertaining to Reservation of Seats, Fees and Interview pattern for PhD Entrance Test – 2024

  1. Candidates with valid UGC NET with JRF or valid UGC NET Score of year 2024 are eligible subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria for PhD admission as prescribed in the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022.
  2. Eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. Programme is as follows:
    1. A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed
      or
      equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
      A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
      Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
    2. Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  3. The number of seats to be advertised in different categories (GEN/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) is as per the IGNOU Reservation Policy for Research Degree Programmes in line to the DOPT, Govt of India norms amended from time to time. For details of discipline-wise vacancies of PhD seats, the Information Brochure may be referred.
  4. Five percent (5%) seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (with not less than 40% disability). However, such candidates shall be adjusted against the appropriate category (Gen/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) to which they belong.
  5. Submission of application forms will be online only.
  6. Application Fee for submission of online application is Rs 1000/- Rupees one thousand only.
  7. Application fee is non-refundable.
  8. No request for change in category shall be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted.
  9. The interview for PhD Admissions shall be conducted in compliance to the University Grants Commission’s Public Notice No. F.4-1 (UGC-NET Review Committee)/ 2024 (NET)/ 140648 dated March 27, 2024 regarding National Eligibility Test (NET) as an Entrance Test for Admission to Ph.D.
  10. The JRF-Qualified students are admitted into the Ph.D. programme based on an interview as per the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022. The Candidates with valid UGC NET with JRF shall be called for interview and the interview shall carry 100% weightage.
  11. For students who qualify in Categories 2 and 3 of UGC NET conducted by NTA during the year 2024, 70% weightage will be given for UGC NET test scores and 30% weightage for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programmes. The Ph.D. admission will be based on the combined merit list of NET marks and the marks obtained in the interview/viva voce.
  12. The marks obtained in the NET by the candidates in Categories 2 and 3 will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D.
  13. Interview shall have three components comprising Research Methodology (40%), subject domain (40%) and Communication skills (20%).
  14. The interview shall be conducted by the discipline specific Admission Committee.
  15. Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly based on merit. A combined merit list of JRF candidates and candidates with valid UGC NET Score under category 2 and 3 will be prepared which will be the Final merit list of selected candidates for PhD admission. The Final merit list shall be discipline wise based on merit and reservation policy of Government of India.
